What makes adult learning effective and meaningful?

In designing trainings, this is a question we continually ask ourselves. These are factors we have identified through our experience:

  • Value individual identity and life experiences

  • Start with what participants want to learn

  • Make activities meaningful based on perceived needs and interests

  • Distribute ownership of learning and teaching

  • Encourage co-creation of ideas

  • Stimulate initiative and co-facilitation

  • Reward curiosity

  • Activate imagination and senses

  • Improvise and employ iteration

  • Strive for noncompetitive and mutually rewarding experiences

  • Widen and deepen insight into oneself

Ultimately, our approach to training is holistic and taps into a wide range of the human experience that each participant brings to a training program.
